OLLI Quizcats (Virtual)
The OLLI at UNLV trivia crew, the OLLI Quizcats, hosts virtual bi-weekly meetings beginning Thursday, September 9 from 12-1pm. Each of us will answer the trivia questions individually and keep track of our own score, so there is no team pressure. It's all for fun! The top three scorers from each meeting will achieve everlasting fame as their names will be included in the OLLI e-newsletter the following week. You will see a wide range of question categories and difficulty, so everyone will have a chance to feel wise.
SIG: Artist's Workshop
Need inspiration for your next project? Grab your paint brushes, drawing pencils, watercolors, fabric, yarn, or whatever medium you choose to join fellow members to work on projects in a fun and creative space. This fall we will have select weeks with exciting projects influenced by different cultures including soap carving inspired by the Inuit/Inuktitut and glass painting inspired by ancient Roman stained glass. Members are welcome to join and participate in these special projects or just join us to learn about other cultures and spend time working on their own project.
Coffee Room (Virtual & In-Person)
The OLLI Coffee Room is best known as our gathering place—where conversations flow as much as the coffee. This fall we will have both virtual and in-person Coffee Room chats! Meet us for a cup of coffee or tea in the OLLI Coffee room September 14, October 12, and November 9 from 1-2pm or join us virtually with your favorite cup of homemade drink on September 28 and October 26 from 12- 1pm. We look forward to seeing you and discussing some exciting topics this fall!
Zentangle (Virtual)
The Zentangle method is an easy to learn, fun way to create beautiful images by drawing many patterns on a small tile. It’s a portable art, can be solitary or social, and it does not require charging any electronics. Zentangle art draws on mindful patterns that can be found all around us in our daily lives, giving the art a natural feel that just seems “right.” Practicing the Zentangle method is an experience that is unique to each person, and the positive results are tremendous. You can use this as a wellness tool and anyone that can hold a pen can learn to create stunning art!
Ted Talks
Join OLLI member facilitators for a discussion twice a month beginning Thursday, September 16, 12-1pm on a variety of TED Talk topics. Topics this fall will include the importance of childhood, intelligence, and sports. Join us to discuss these topics and more this fall! Videos will be posted on the fall 2021 website, olliatunlv.wixsite.com/ fall2021, for members to watch and review before each group discussion session.
