A Message From The Steering Council Chair and OLLI Director
On behalf of the Steering Council and Administrative Team of OLLI at UNLV, we wish to welcome you to our Fall 2021 semester. Over the past year, we experienced our world, including OLLI, in a whole new way. This fall, we begin our climb back to normalcy, and look forward to a return to much of the classes and camaraderie that we know OLLI to be. Whether you are coming back to campus for the first time in a year, plan to continue enjoying the convenience of virtual classes from your own home, or perhaps are joining us for the very first time, we hope that you find classes and shared interest groups (SIGs) that will have been worth the wait.
Like the rest of the world, OLLI faced uncertainty over these many months, but with our talented volunteers and administrative team we have managed to continue to present a wide range of interesting and educational virtual classes. We are incredibly appreciative of our volunteers who are teaching our classes, chairing our committees, reaching out to our members, and leading activities; without them, OLLI would have ceased to exist.
We are always on the lookout for new classes and new volunteer instructors, and yes, this pitch is aimed directly at you. If you have a passion or an expertise you’d like to share in the classroom or online, please reach out to us. And, if you are concerned about how to create or present a class, OLLI can offer all the assistance you may need, so don’t be afraid to jump in.
Although OLLI at UNLV has felt different this past year, we are tremendously grateful to the university, our staff, and especially to all of you who have stayed with us or are returning to us now to continue along our path of lifelong learning.
John Birkland, Steering Council Chair
Robert Levrant, OLLI Director
